Why We Don’t Recommend One of These Five Shade of White (And Why We Sometimes Do Recommend It)

Why We Don’t Recommend One of These Five Shade of White (And Why We Sometimes Do)

White is one of the most popular colors people ask for when painting their cabinets.

But most of the time we don’t end up painting their cabinets “white”.  Instead it is some variation of an off-white.

Off-whites are basically a “true white” with just a little bit of color added to lessen the starkness of “true white”.  If your kitchen has a a lot of natural light and/or cool undertones, then “true white” might work well.

Most of the time a true white is too stark, sterile and at times almost fluorescent  or neon like.  It is just too “white”.

We have used it on occasion, but very rarely.

When I meet with customers who are looking to paint their cabinets white, I usually recommend that they start with these four colors.

Extra White SW 7006 – This shade of white has a slight cool undertone to it and goes well with spaces that have grays, blues and/or purple undertones in the space.

High Reflective White SW 7757 – This is the truest white available.  I like to recommend this color so that customers can see why they might not like it.  It is also a great tool to put next to other colors so that you can compare and see the undertones that are present.

Pure White SW 7005 – This shade has a slight warm undertone without any yellow or gold in it.  One of the more popular colors.

Westhighland White SW 7566 – This shade of white has a slight golden undertone that gives it it’s warmth.

Dover White SW 6358 – Similar to Westhighland White, Dover White has a little bit more of the goldish undertone giving it more of a creamy, yellowish undertone.

Most of time customers are able to find the white that they are looking for with these 5 shades of white.  And if they don’t love one of these colors, it helps them narrow down the undertones that they are looking for in a color.
